#FeatureFriday – Bamboo Shoots


Last but not least, we’re featuring one of the key ingredients in our crowd favourite Thai Coconut Curry Smart Soup.

Bamboo shoots are mostly consumed in many Asian countries such as Thailand, Philippines, China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India, Indonesia and Nepal. Often found in canned varieties or fresh, it’s always recommended to boil them partially or soak them in water overnight. However by doing so, it doesn’t deteriorate the nutritional value of Bamboo Shoots. There is about 2 to 2.5 grams of protein in every 100 grams of bamboo shoots and it’s high in vitamins, minerals and dietary fibers. It also contains high cellulosic material which can stimulate one’s appetite.  We can’t forget that bamboo shoots also contains negligible amounts of  the good fat, both saturated and unsaturated. Our bodies need the unsaturated fats in order to control the spread of bad LDL cholesterol going throughout the body.
